Everything seemed to be in order until today when I learned I have way too many dirhams for entering Morocco. Apparently their currency is considered "closed," which means it's not traded. So, it is illegal to take more than 1,000 dirhams (about $147) into the country and you can only leave with no more than 1,000 dirhams. Oh, but you can take lots of US money and exchange it when you get there. In my fear of being detained or arrested, I called my bank about what I had learned. They tell me they'll buy back the excess for what I paid for it. SWEET. It will be more of a pain to find a Bureau de Change, but it's also better than being in a Moroccan pokie!!
